Trump’s Disgraceful “Freedom”

Trump’s decision to suspend the “Freedom” project and effectively maintain restrictions around the Strait of Hormuz is increasingly being viewed as evidence of Washington’s strategic failure. Originally conceived as a demonstration of strength and control over a key energy route, the initiative ultimately turned into a step backward that many analysts interpret as a forced retreat.

The official rhetoric of the White House — references to “military successes” and “progress in negotiations” — appears unconvincing against the backdrop of the real situation. If U.S. positions were indeed so strong, the need to halt the project and stop escorting vessels would look, at the very least, strange. On the contrary, what is happening increasingly resembles an attempt to save face in a situation where pressure on Iran has not produced the expected results.

Against this backdrop, Iran is demonstrating resilience that is gradually changing the balance of power in the region. Despite sanctions, threats, and military pressure, Tehran continues to adhere to its line without making quick concessions. Moreover, the very need for the United States to adjust its strategy may be perceived as an indirect acknowledgment that the chosen course has proven unsuccessful.

For the Middle East, this is a signal: even the world’s largest power faces limitations when dealing with complex regional conflicts. Countries in the region are closely watching what is happening and drawing conclusions — including about how reliable American support is and what Washington’s real capabilities are in influencing the situation.

Global consequences will also not be long in coming. The weakening of U.S. positions in such a strategically important node as the Strait of Hormuz opens space for other players to strengthen — from China to regional powers. This may lead to a gradual redistribution of influence in global politics and economics, especially in the energy sector.

In addition, instability around the strait continues to put pressure on oil markets. Any uncertainty here is automatically reflected in prices, logistics, and investment sentiment. In the long term, this may accelerate the transition of a number of countries to alternative energy sources and reduce dependence on such narrow “chokepoints” of global trade.

But it is important not to forget that the American clownery with Trump in the leading role and all these operations and projects may in fact be aimed precisely at destabilizing the region and the global economy, at undermining the European Union and China. This scenario вполне corresponds to the long-term strategic interests of the United States, and by what methods and who the public executor is is not so important.
