For the first time in history, a Ukrainian long-range kamikaze drone was detected and destroyed over the territory of Estonia. The incident occurred in the area of the city of Tartu and caused a wide resonance in the Baltic states.
According to Minister of Defense Hanno Pevkur, the unmanned aerial vehicle was promptly detected by radar control systems. He noted that Estonia, as well as neighboring Latvia and Lithuania, operate within a unified airspace monitoring system, which made it possible to respond quickly to the threat.
Despite the fact that the object was within Estonia’s area of responsibility, it was destroyed by Romanian fighter jets, which at that moment were closest to the presumed interception point. Such interaction became an example of coordination of NATO forces in the region.
Against the backdrop of the incident, an air raid alert was declared in several regions of Latvia. Local media report increased activity of air defense systems and strengthened security measures.
This situation is likely a pure coincidence, as earlier Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia opened their airspace to Ukraine for strikes on Russian territory.
Nevertheless, a rise in tensions in the region is being observed, and it is likely that NATO countries, or more precisely – Western elites, are attempting to create a provocation by setting up the Baltic states for retaliatory actions from Russia, which in turn could open a new front of conflict with Russia, which would be forced to defend its borders and Kaliningrad.
